Extending A Flower For Dementia

For My Mother Who Suffered with Dementia

Extending A Flower For Dementia

Extend a flower
For Dementia today
For those who have suffered
In this terrible way.
Frustration, forgetfulness
Disorientation too
And the saddest part?
There’s not much we can do.

But extend a flower
And say a prayer
For all who suffer
And for all who care.
Hasten the day
A cure will be found
And the keys to prevention
Known and abound.

Here’s to the day-
When dementia’s no more
Loved ones will remember
Forevermore.

The above poem is dedicated to my mother who suffered with dementia for three years. It was frusterating watching her confusion but she never lost her love for others and generosity which is caught in the photo above. Love you, Mom.
